The Madeiran Autonomous Regional Government held on 8 and 9 August 2016 the Forum Madeira Global, to give voice to Madeiran communities and to deepen the ties that bind Madeirans, regardless of where they live in the world.

The first day of the Forum Madeira Global hosted four thematic debates; the Madeiran and politics, Social solidarity, Taxation and investments and The diaspora as an affirmation of Madeira in the world.

Due to the wide-spread fires that took place in the Madeiran capital, Funchal, and the seriousness thereof where people lost their homes, the Forum Madeira Global was cancelled. The Forum thus took place over only one day instead of the intended two, as the Madeiran government, including its President, were on the ground with the firefighters.

Due to the fires, the official cocktail that was to take place the Madeira president’s official residence, Quinta da Vigia, was moved to the Madeira Congress Centre where the Forum was being held.

Manny de Freitas said that it was an honour to participate in the debate, “The diaspora as an affirmation of Madeira in the world”. De Freitas said that although the Forum was a success it was understandable and necessary that it be cut short as the attention and emergency was with the fires engulfing Madeira which is undergoing a heatwave.

O Autónoma Governo Regional da Madeira, realizado a 8 e 9 de agosto de 2016 o Fórum Madeira Global, para dar voz às comunidades madeirenses e aprofundar os laços que unem os madeirenses, independentemente de onde eles vivem no mundo.

O primeiro dia do Fórum Madeira global hospedou quatro debates temáticos; os madeirenses e política, a solidariedade social, os impostos e investimentos e a Diáspora como uma afirmação da Madeira no mundo.

Devido aos incêndios que ocorreram na capital madeirense, Funchal, e a gravidade dos mesmos onde as pessoas perderam as suas casas, o Forum Madeira Global foi cancelado. O Fórum teve, assim, lugar ao longo de apenas um dia em vez dos dois destina, como o governo madeirense, incluindo o seu Presidente, estavam no chão com os bombeiros.

Devido aos incêndios, o cocktail oficial, que deveria ter lugar a residência oficial do presidente Madeira, Quinta da Vigia, foi transferido para o Centro de Congressos da Madeira, onde o Fórum estava sendo realizado.

Manny de Freitas disse que era uma honra participar no debate, "A Diáspora como uma afirmação da Madeira no mundo". De Freitas disse que, embora o Fórum foi um sucesso era compreensível e necessário que fosse interrompido quando a atenção e de emergência foi com os incêndios que assolavam Madeira que está passando por uma onda de calor.
